LAHSO – The acronym for “Land and Hold Short Operations” is what an aircraft flyer or pilot would call a typical maneuver to avoid head on head collision with another aircraft object or any ground problems posed during landing. Earlier this was called as SOIR – standing for “Simultaneous Operations on Intersecting Runways”. These operations are classified based on the landing place i.e., either a LAHSO for the runway or taxiway or a point in the runway. Problems like Ice flooded on the runway or mist blurring the runway view or presence of other emergency aircrafts in the runway or taxiway at the same time call in the use of LAHSO.
